INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER

Summary: Plans utilization of facilities, equipment, materials, and personnel to improve efficiency of operations and optimize manufacturing operations by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Studies functional statements, organization charts, and project information to determine functions and responsibilities of workers and work units and to identify areas of duplication.
  • Establishes work measurement programs and analyzes work samples to develop standards for labor utilization.
  • Analyzes work force utilization, facility layout, and operational data such as production costs, process flow charts, and production schedules, to determine efficient utilization of workers and equipment.
  • Recommends methods for improving efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities such as restructuring job duties, reorganizing work flow, relocating work stations and equipment, and purchase of equipment.
  • Confers with management and engineering staff to implement plans and recommendations.
  • Develops management systems for cost analysis, financial planning, wage and salary administration, and job evaluation.

Education and/or Experience                                               
Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills                                            
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills                                                  
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability                                                     
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills                                            
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Design software; Internet software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Holding a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is a plus

Other Skills and Abilities                                                     
Practical experience in one or more of the following disciplines -- Lean Manufacturing, Value Stream Mapping, 6 Sigma and 5S.
