MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
Description:
Performs mechanical/electrical maintenance and repair to motors, gears, conveyor systems, AC & DC drives, pneumatics/hydraulics, etc. Experience with the following is desired: tig welding, sheet metal fabrication, lathes, milling machines, industrial power tools, boilers, lifts, air compressors, forklifts, and floor scrubbers.
Position Purpose:
Primary duties are as follows, responsible for the overall maintenance of production machinery, pneumatic, hydraulic, thermal,
and electrical equipment in the plant and attached equipment, including building maintenance. Assisting in creation and execution of preventative and predictive maintenance programs. Assisting in continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, process excellence, Six Sigma, and Lean Sigma projects and programs. Assisting where needed, other duties may be assigned. Must be able to have a flexible schedule to assist in plant maintenance, repair, and operations (includes covering for vacations, etc). Must be reasonably available for phone support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Must follow Good Manufacturing Practices and good housekeeping guidelines. Must follow safety guidelines, wear designated Personal Protective Equipment, and meet OSHA safety requirements.
- Must maintain and troubleshoot plant fork lifts, stretch wrappers, lifts, sanitation equipment, and dock doors via preventative and corrective maintenance.
- Knowledge of 3 phase AC, 24 VDC and PLC controls.
- Must be skilled in stainless steel fabrication and welding.
- Perform downtime and/or preventative maintenance on plant production, packaging and support equipment
- Perform modifications, component replacement, troubleshooting, calibration adjustments,
performance checks, shutdown checks, and start-up checks on plant equipment. - Perform projects as assigned, including planning, purchase of materials, modifications
and/or major overhauls of equipment.. - Fill in for other maintenance and operator technicians as needed, including learning numerous maintenance and operations tasks plant wide.
- Must be able to bend over, squat, twist and stoop during the performance of work duties.
- Pricing research with vendors and/or suppliers
- Basic plumbing skills.
- Must be able to maintain storeroom and follow procedures for storeroom control
- Must be able to utilize and operate a Lathe, Milling Machine, AC/DC and Heli-arc welder, power and hand tools.
- Insure all equipment is safe to operate including proper guards, eliminate pinch points, sharp edges.
- Maintain process control points (PCPs) such as work orders, downtime sheets, parts usage and miscellaneous logs, record data accordingly.
- Working with MP2 & Microsoft Office Suite.
Non-Essential Duties
- Keep area clean and debris out of work area
- Team meetings and certifications
Education
High school education as well as technical school training. Experience may subsitute for formal education.
Experience
Mechanical, Electrical (military ratings of MM, EM, and avionics related fields substitute for technical certification if rank is E-6 or above upon completion of military service)
Must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform the essential and non-essential tasks related to the job with little or no supervision. Successful team members must follow and maintain PCP’s and Safety Procedures. Must maintain a reasonable attendance level. Must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds. Must be familiar with NEC, OSHA, EPA and other regulatory guidelines. Must have Lock Out/Tag Out training.

- Must possess deductive logic, (i.e., read, comprehend and follow complex troubleshooting instructions and identify parts from equipment maintenance manuals).
- Must understand forklift and stretch wrapper maintenance, operations, and repair (including preventative maintenance)
- Must possess leadership skills
- Must be able to weld at a near sanitary level.
- Must have a mastery of manufacturing equipment maintenance (practical and theoretical)
- Must be able to interact with leadership and production to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Operate and maintain plant boiler/steam and ammonia system
- Process Safety Management for boiler and ammonia systems
- Operate and maintain plant HVAC system
- Modify and upgrade equipment and assist in installations
- Systems emergency alarm response assistance
- Operate and maintain plant compressed air system
